Visualization Solution

The Visualization Solution provides tools for planning and presenting accurate perspective renderings of terrain associated with resource management (Visual Impact Assessment, Viewscapes, etc.).

It allows for simulation and impact analysis of planned resource management and development activities. It uses the rendering capability of MicroStation to create perspective views of potential intervention activity (forestry, road works, dams, construction etc.). It includes specialized utilities and the following modules:

SURFACE 3D
SURFACE 3D generates surface models from a binary Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) produced by TIN 3D. Output options include a TIN shape file, a grid shape file or a cross-section wiremesh. These surface models can be displayed and rendered for visual presentation. SURFACE 3D can also be used to drape 2D features on a 3D surface by interpolating elevations (Z) using the TIN.

VISIBLE 3D
VISIBLE 3D determines and portrays the areas visible (and non visible areas within the viewshed) from any location, height and specified direction of view. This module also includes VISAREA that calculates the percent of alteration visible from a given perspective, and LSIGHT that produces a ground profile along a given line of sight.

Both SURFACE 3D and VISIBLE 3D can be executed from within a MAPS 3D script for batch processing of multiple files.

For the additional utility to accompany the Visualization Solution, we suggest: BUFFER 3D, CONE 3D, CLIP 3D or MOEP 3D
