| The Topology Solution provides a set of
software tools for topological cleaning and validation of 3D spatial data for use by
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Database Management Systems.
Topologically clean data, particularly 3D datasets, is an essential element for
reliable analysis and reporting in these geo-referenced information systems. MAPS 3D
Topology Solution includes the following modules:
NODE 3D
NODE 3D creates topologically correct nodes in 3D (X,Y,Z) at all line segment
intersections in an IGDS file. As the nodes are created, the data is cleaned by deleting
overshoots, extending undershoots, removing short isolated line segments and duplicate
vertices. Tolerances for cleaning and validation are user definable, and are contained in
the project feature database.
CHECK 3D
CHECK 3D finds errors and data conditions within an IGDS file and flags those that fail to
comply with the project specifications (tolerances) contained in the project feature
database. A host of 2D and 3D errors are identified including duplications, noding errors,
"spikes" and "slivers" (in X,Y and Z), hanging endpoints, short
segments, directional errors etc. CHECK 3D generates an error file that is used by EDIT 3D
for interactive viewing and correction. Error conditions can be marked as
"acceptable" and are not re-visited in subsequent CHECK 3D - EDIT 3D cycles.
Both NODE 3D and CHECK 3D can be executed from within a MAPS 3D Script for batch
processing of multiple files.
For the additional utility to accompany the Topology Solution, we suggest: FILTER 3D, JOIN 3D, SEW
3D or POLYCHECK 3D
