| The MAPS 3D Core Solution consists of essential tools for data and
project management together with additional MAPS 3D modules, utilities and MDL tools for
working effectively with 3D geo-referenced datasets. The Core package includes the licence
to use MAPS 3D on a single PC, software maintenance (upgrades and support) for one year,
and a comprehensive User Manual.
The Core Solution provides the foundation upon which all other MAPS 3D Solution
Packages and Optional Utilities are configured. It performs the following functions:
- Defines a MAPS 3D project which contains relevant information about individual project
specifications.
- Feature database customization and management for all MAPS 3D applications
- Spatial data capture, editing and manipulation
- Management of spatial data standards on a project-wide basis using MAPS 3D's Feature
Code Manager
- Display and output management
- Process customization and management of batch processing (scripting)
MAPS 3D modules provided in the Core Solution include:
FEATURE CODE MANAGER
MAPS 3D stores graphic attributes (level, colour, etc.), validation tolerances and other
processing parameters for each map feature in a database. A feature database is
established for each set of project specifications. The Feature Code Manager provides the
tools to build and maintain these feature databases.
PROCESS MANAGER
Process Manager facilitates the construction of batch production processes. Allows
"drag and drop" of MAPS 3D modules to create linear batch process scripts.
Supports full Visual Basic scripting for more complex processes.
DISPLAY MANAGER
The display of map features can be controlled using their feature definition. This allows
features on the same MicroStation level to be displayed independently.
TIN 3D
TIN 3D generates a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) surface from a Digital Elevation
Model (DEM) containing point and breakline data. The TIN surface model is used by several
other MAPS 3D modules. TIN 3D can be executed from within a MAPS 3D script for batch
processing multiple DEM files.
EDIT 3D
Within MicroStation, EDIT 3D interactively "drives" the user to error locations
flagged by TIN 3D and other MAPS 3D modules.
LINK 3D
LINK 3D automatically links graphic elements in an IGDS file to map feature definitions
and standards contained in the MAPS 3D project feature database. Elements are linked by
unique combinations of IGDS graphic attributes (e.g. level, colour, line type etc.). LINK
3D can be executed from within a MAPS 3D script for batch processing multiple files.
UPDATE 3D
UPDATE 3D modifies the graphic attributes (e.g. level, colour, line type etc.) of existing
map files in response to changes in the project feature database. This includes global
replacement and conversion of cells and text. UPDATE 3D can be executed from within a MAPS
3D script for batch processing multiple files.
ZCAP 3D
ZCAP 3D permits the capture of 3D data using a digitizing tablet or mouse and the TIN 3D
surface. The ground elevations (z) are interactively interpolated in real time from the
TIN as the planimetric (x,y) points are collected.
MDL TOOLBOX
An extensive, mapping tool box containing over 150 custom MDL applications is included in
the Core Solution. These tools provide for 3D data capture, error correction and editing,
and feature coding (link to feature database) to create map data which is graphically and
topologically correct. The Core Solution also includes additional utilities for data
management conversion and reporting.
